Tame the dandruff: Simple remedies for a happier scalp!
If you're struggling with dandruff, you're not alone. Here are some holistic ways to get rid of it.

You've got dandruff issues? I can fix that.
Dandruff happens. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about – it’s just flakes falling like snow from your head. Life throws you curveballs, but you’ve got options to take control of this, naturally!
I have 5 tips and tricks up my sleeve and if you’re rolling your eyes thinking that these won’t work, then don’t do them, boo boo. I am not forcing you to do anything you don’t want to do. It’s your choice!
1. Baking Soda Magic
Baking soda might not sound glamorous, but it’s surprisingly effective for exfoliating the scalp. Here’s the move: dust a bit of baking soda onto your head while showering, massage it in, let it work its magic, and rinse thoroughly. Thinking, “Baking soda in my hair? Really?” Yes, really. But don’t stress if it’s not your thing. (Note: This method will strip dye.)
Why it works: Baking soda helps remove dead skin cells and reduce excess oils that can contribute to dandruff.
2. Oil and Tea Tree Power
Coconut oil or olive oil paired with tea tree oil is a powerhouse against scalp fungus, one of the root causes of dandruff. Tea tree oil is both antifungal and antibacterial, so it works overtime. Mix three to four drops of tea tree oil into one tablespoon of coconut or olive oil. Massage it into your scalp, getting in deep with your fingertips. Leave it overnight and wash it out in the morning. It’s simple, soothing, and scalp-friendly.
Why it works: Tea tree oil targets fungal growth while the oil moisturizes and protects the scalp.
3. Aloe Vera Gel Love
Aloe vera gel isn’t just for sunburns—it’s a hydration hero for irritated scalps. Scoop some gel, spread it on your scalp, and let it chill for an hour. Catch up on your favorite TV show, paint your nails, do anything that relaxes you. Then rinse. No need to shampoo afterward unless you want to. It’s soothing, hydrating, and just feels good on your head.
Why it works: Aloe vera calms inflammation and provides moisture to reduce dryness and irritation.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar Reset
Yes, it’s a classic, but apple cider vinegar can work wonders. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water, apply it to your scalp after shampooing, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse it out, and yes, you might smell a little tangy for a while, but the benefits are worth it. And besides, the tangy smell lasts for maybe 10 minutes. That said, if you have psoriasis, chat with your doctor about ways to manage it.
Why it works: Apple cider vinegar balances the scalp's pH and helps reduce yeast overgrowth, a common dandruff trigger.
5. Reevaluate Your Diet
Flakes aren’t just about your scalp—sometimes, they’re linked to what you eat. Cutting back on processed foods might help reduce irritation and inflammation from the inside out. I know, I know. I’m a big foodie. If I could start doing mukbangs, I would. But while food is medicine, some foods can irritate your gut. We know that an unhappy gut can cause a whole lot of issues.
Why it works: A nutrient-rich diet supports scalp health and reduces triggers like inflammation that can worsen dandruff.
These remedies aren’t about perfection. Stuff happens, and flakes are just a part of life sometimes. But with a little care and experimentation, you might find relief. Whether you try one of these tips or all of them, do what feels right for you. And if you don’t, that’s okay, too.
Take care of yourself. You’ve got this!
