So many people have said “you look so healthy” comments make them feel bad. That somehow it means they don’t look like they should, but… I personally love hearing it because becoming healthier changed how I looked and felt.
I have always taken this as a compliment. Because I used to have unhealthy habits without even realizing it.
And I’m not going to bore you with all the wellness talk that comes with this space, but I will tell you things that have helped me “glow up” in SIGNIFICANT ways that are simple, if you think about it.
If you can afford to, do something about your smile if it keeps you from smiling. I don’t mean get veneers, I mean get braces. I got adult braces and it made me realize I was insecure about my teeth so much so that I wasn’t comfortable smiling often. I had to get them because my dentist told me that I’d have a crap ton of problems down the road with my jaw that would be really expensive so I saved up and got it done. Now, I feel like a completely different human being because I actually like my smile.
Eat food for your body instead of just for your emotions and because it tastes good. I didn’t realize that I was only eating for those two reasons. When I changed that because I felt so tired all the time, I felt like my skin looked brighter, and I looked less dead. Like my skin was no longer gray. Body literacy is so important. I’m not talking about any special diets, but eat more nutrient-dense if you can. It makes such a big difference. I started thinking about what food was doing for my body, not just whether I liked it.
Get enough sleep for YOUR body. Look, I used to sleep for 5 hours because I was too busy. Um, my eye bags were out of control. I made sleeping for at least 8 hours a priority, and I swear it changed my outlook on so many things. Being tired and overworked will change the way you perceive things, booboo.
Schedule at least 1 hour a week for self-care. Self-care is self-love. I don’t mean do anything crazy if you don’t want to but do something that makes you feel GOOOOOD. Something that makes you feel relaxed. Even if that means you take a bath and watch a show. Even if that means you try out a new mask on your face and eat snacks while you read. Even if that means you take a nap for the entire hour. Do what makes you feel good and prioritize it for at least one hour a week. Hopefully more.
These aren’t fast glow-up tips but I swear this is why people tell me “you look so healthy” all the time.
To me, it meant I looked alive. ❤️
